I am considering whether they might be a market for DIY kits or components. I wonder whether there would be interest in the generic panels, unpopulated, e.g. the PCB with microcontroller and associated components but without switches or potentiometers. Also the spacers and front panels. Maybe some enthusiasts may want to customise their own or save a few pounds/ euros / dollars self building.
Unless this simplifies development by allowing you to more quickly iterate prototypes I probably would wait until after release to gauge this market before developing another option. Getting that minimum viable product out there earlier to me makes sense before putting effort into options.
